Taos Jewelry

Taos Jewelry was created by Timothy Smith, a Northern New Mexico jeweler whose connection to stone cutting and silversmithing began early. Growing up, he watched his father cut stones, stamp silver, solder gold, and turn raw materials into finished pieces. Years later, after taking a jewelry class in college, Timothy returned to those skills and found that the work came naturally.

Today, much of his process begins with the stone itself. Timothy loves being the first person to cut into a stone and discover what has been waiting inside for millions of years. He believes each stone carries its own energy, frequency, and direction. Some seem meant to become rings, others pendants, bracelets, or earrings.

Having lived in the Taos area most of his life, Timothy draws inspiration from the cultures, landscapes, seasons, animals, mountains, rivers, plains, and plateaus of Northern New Mexico. His work brings together family tradition, lapidary, and an ongoing fascination with turning something ancient and natural into wearable art.

The story of Taos Jewelry is also a story of inherited tools, old stone collections, a sold VW Beetle, and the many small moments that helped turn a lifelong fascination into a business.
