Taos Jewelry Started During the Pandemic
An Idea Became A Reality

Taos Jewelry started when founder, Tim Smith, watched his father cut stones and make jewelry. Throughout the years he learned how to work the lapidary equipment and how to fabricate sterling silver. Growing up in the Jewelry business, Tim was drawn to this work but didn't pursue it. But then, COVID hit and Tim's life was changed. That is when Taos Jewelry went from being an occasional nostalgic hobby to an online business.
While Tim was enrolled in Geology at the University of New Mexico, he decided to take an elective course in jewelry-making. Little did he know that this choice would change Tim's career trajectory. During this class, Tim's early experience with Jewelry-making ignited a fire in Tim. He sold a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle to get his first stone cutting equipment, and his business only grew from there. With hard work, careful use of stimulus money and a helping hand from Donna Smith, who generously gave Tim her father's large stone collection, Tim's dream of opening a Jewelry business was born in the dark of the COVID-19 lock-down.

As Tim continued making pieces, he started to align to an additional purpose he is meant to fulfill with his Jewelry business. His passion for rocks and minerals led to learnings about the healing and rejuvenating properties of specific stones. Now each piece is developed with focused intent.
Taos Jewelry offers great products at a fair price. We do not have a brick and mortar gallery to show our works in. Without the overhead costs that come from a gallery, we can keep the cost down.

We source our materials from reputable suppliers and can assure you that nothing is other than what we claim.
All our silver is either .925 sterling or .999 fine silver. Bezel settings are made from sterling and fine silver both. However it will be stamped as .925 or sterling even though it also contains fine silver as well. Although the tru value is not in the price of the silver, it is the work of art.
All the turquoise will be authentic. When a specific type of turquoise is used it will be mentioned in the description. If I can’t undoubtedly know the origin of the stone I will only call it by its mineral name.
Turquoise is usually named after the mine or region it came from. The vast majority of other stones are simply called by their mineral name.
